CAMP JUMOKE – BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The following are the Board of Directorpositions at Camp Jumoke dealing with the overall operation of the organization. Members of the Board “will be responsible for the post-incorporation procedures, book of the minutes, corporate seal and the by-laws and resolutions that will govern the internal affairs of the corporation.” The following list names these positions and outlines the responsibilities therein:

President
This position carries with it the ultimate responsibility for Camp Jumoke. This position generally should be the first option in making contacts within and outside of Camp Jumoke. He/she may also facilitate Board and committee meetings.

Vice-President
This position should assist the President in activities and responsibilities. The Vice-President would also assume the responsibilities of the President in his/her absence. The focus of this position is the running of the camp. Programming, staffing, extra activities must be all coordinated through this liaison to Camp Wenonah. This person may also facilitate Board and committee meetings. This person is also the co-chair of Camp Jumoke’s Health Care sub-committee.

Secretary
This position takes on the responsibility of taking minutes at committee meetings, circulation of past meeting minutes to the Members for approval at the monthly meetings and assists with preparation of meeting agenda. Regular updates and checking of the office voice mail, mailbox and email are primarily this person’s responsibility. Review of printed material in conjunction with the Board.

Treasurer
This position is responsible for managing the finances of the Corporation. Duties of the individual include preparing the budget, controlling expenditures, paying bills, and maintaining the financial records, the bank accounts, and liaison with the corporation’s accountant. Pre and post banking arrangements for events. Delivers regular financial reports to the Board. The Treasurer is also responsible for keeping a record of the paid members of the organization.

Communications Director
This position is responsible for all internal and external communication, the creation of media related material as well as the review of all outgoing communications and sourcing of Camp Jumoke media coverage.

Medical Director
This position is primarily responsible for the coordination of medical supplies and medical staff at camp. As well, this position will act as the main sickle cell education source for Camp Jumoke, its members, and those groups who wish to possess more information on Sickle Cell Anemia.
This Director must form a health care subcommittee made up with Nurses and Doctors that attend Camp Jumoke. The responsibilities of the sub-committee include: education, review of Camp Jumoke candidates, medical supply and bottled water acquisition, and acting as medical staff during the camp session. Health-related communication with the camp host and parents will occur through this position. This will also be true of communication with other hospitals, clinics, pediatric clinics and camp-area hospitals.

Nursing Director
This position is responsible for coordinating recruitment of children for the camp session and other Camp Jumoke related events. The Nursing Director is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of medical supplies and water at camp during the camp session. The Nursing Director aids the Medical Director in the coordination of the Health Care subcommittee. Health-related communication with the camp host and parents will occur through this position.

Events Director
This position is responsible for the organization of Camp Jumoke events. The most notable of these is the annual walkathon. This person will be charged with organizing sub-committees and facilitating meetings for various fundraising events. This person will be responsible for forming sub-committees in order to ensure the successful execution of events.

Fundraising Director
This position is responsible for organizing and facilitating activities to raise monies for the camp. This should be done largely through the business/corporate sector, but may also include the creation of events that are to be coordinated with the Events and/or Communications Director.

Volunteer Director
This position is responsible for the recruitment and coordination of volunteers for Camp Jumoke events, as well as regular, continued contact with the volunteer sector via phone, mail and email. Responsibilities include tasks such as sending thank-you letters post functions to supplying regular updates on events.

Information Systems Director
This position was added to the Board of Directors in order to provide greater coordination of Camp Jumoke’s technology needs.

Past President
This position was added to the Board of Directors in order to provide greater continuity through the Board from term to term. This is not an elected position. The Past-President should be available to the Board for information. The Past President is not expected to attend the monthly meetings. This is not a voting position.

Each year we host several events in which you the community can participate and learn more about the great work being done at Camp Jumoke...the smiling faces of campers is our reward.




The Annual General Meeting is the place where new board members are nominated and voted into office. Everyone is welcome.

Our 16th Annual Walk-a-thon. Always in the spirit of fun and excercise, we walk for children living with Sickle Cell Disease RAIN or SHINE! All proceeds collected support the initiative of funding children's summer camp experience. JOIN US ON SATURDAY MAY 29, 2010!

We also, encourage current college and university students; especially those in the Medical, New Media, Fundraising, Journalism and Business Management programs to come on out and be of service to these bold and deserving children.
