THE CAMP - There is no place... like this place!

Canoe trips, hiking, fireside sing-a longs and meeting new friends are exciting experiences for any child. But, for kids with SCD, many of whom have never attended summer camp before, these activities are experiences of a life time.

In 1994, the Jumoke Committee was established by a group of health-care professionals and individuals concerned about the emotional well-being of children who have sickle cell disorder.

Camp Jumoke is the only camp in Canada that serves the unique emotional and health-care needs of these children. Any child with SCD between the ages of 8 and 16 is eligible to attend Camp Jumoke, where camp counsellors are trained to work with our children, in coordination with our staff of health care professionals. Funds raised through our annual walkathon, determines the number of children we are able to send to camp each year.

The 2010 Camp Session will be from Sunday August 1to Saturday August 14th
.

Camp Jumoke is hosted at the site of Camp Wenonah (www.campwenonah.com) near Bracebridge, Ontario, which was specifically chosen for the picturesque surroundings, experienced staff and great programs. Click here for more directions to the camp site.

Camp Jumoke offers a wide variety of waterfront sports and creative programs such as:
aqua sports, kayaking, canoeing, archery, arts and crafts and many other activities.

At Camp Jumoke a child can...

enjoy time spent with other children
living with SCD
experience fun camp activities
challenge himself/herself physically
learn how to cope with SCD
enhance self-esteem
establish a support network
foster lifelong friendships
