In the Spirit of survival, the turtle lives longer than any other animal, except man.

In ancient cultures, the turtle was revered as a symbol of strength, survival and perseverance; some also believed they possessed mystical healing powers. For these reasons, Camp Jumoke has chosen the turtle to symbolize its spirit of survival — the struggle and strength of every child afflicted with sickle cell anemia, and the desire to attain a long life for those living with the disease.
