Walk the Walk

Each year since its inception in 1994, Camp
Jumoke has held a walkathon to raise the
necessary funds to send children with Sickle
Cell Anemia to summer camp.
Camp Jumoke receives no government funding. Therefore, it is primarily supported
by private and corporate donations. Will you be one?
The annual Camp Jumoke walkathon is
an entire day of family-oriented events featuring celebrities, live
entertainment, children’s activities, vendors, refreshments
and free giveaways, all at Nathan Phillips Square in downtown
Toronto!
The Camp Jumoke walkathon attracts participants
from the GTA, surrounding areas and for the last few years, Ottawa.
At last year's walkathon, thousands of
dollars were raised by more than 1,500 individual donations and
corporate sponsorships, which allowed 40 children to attend the
two week camp session and developed a life time of memories.
Our Annual Turtle
Walk
Around downtown Toronto!
Turtle Walk
2007
proceeded with vigor and enthusiasm despite a smaller than
anticipated tournout on one of the most gorgeous day weatherwise. It
was indeed a beautiful day for a walk and in the indomitable spirit
of survival which is the hallmark of Camp Jumoke's children and
supporters, it was high fives and loud cheers all the way. While
at the square as always Turtle Walkers were treated to
performances from some of Toronto’s finest artists, including,
Jacqueline John, Richard Popcorn, and a band of fire fighting
musicians.Fun was had by all.
Camp
Jumoke would like to thank everyone who participated in Turtle
Walk 2007 including our corporate supporters and those individuals that sponsored the walkathon
participants.
Your continued support in donations and by
volunteering your time is greatly appreciated.
The number of Children we are able to send to camp are directly
proportional to funds raised during the walk-a-thon. We were not
able to surpass last year's 40 children that went to camp at
a cost of approximately $1,500 per child. The 2007 Camp Session
was from July 29 - August 11, 2007 and 36 children went, drank a
lot of water, had even more fun. We hope you will be
encourage to support our other events this year to help bring in
more funds to make up the shortfall and send more children to camp
next year. Check our events
page for ways in which you can support us; remember when we
help our future leaders, we are really helping ourselves!
It is
through your continued support that Camp Jumoke is able to enrich
the lives of children with sickle cell disease.
